Pennsylvania Democrats Propose Crypto Ban Targeting Lawmakers

A Democratic lawmaker in Pennsylvania has introduced legislation aimed at preventing elected officials from profiting off cryptocurrency while in office. Ben Waxman, representing District 182, unveiled House Bill 1812 on Aug. 20, which would require lawmakers to divest their existing crypto holdings.

The bill is a direct response to what Waxman describes as corruption at the federal level, with explicit criticism directed at former President Donald Trump. Waxman alleges Trump is leveraging his political influence to advance personal financial interests through ventures like the OFFICIAL TRUMP memecoin, while simultaneously advocating for reduced federal oversight of crypto markets.

Democrats argue such activities create clear conflicts of interest. The proposed legislation underscores growing scrutiny of cryptocurrency's role in political finance, though it notably avoids targeting any specific digital assets or exchanges.
